I've been listening to Rihanna's latest album "ANTI" for the past week, trying to pinpoint my favorites off of this long-awaited LP that was three years in-the-making. While there are a number of unique tracks filled with attitude and syncopated beats (e.g. "Consideration" featuring SZA — what a collab!), I've been particularly intrigued by her slower and simpler "Yeah, I Said It," which was co-produced by Timbaland.
While only lasting a little over two minutes, this track is a heavy, alluring, and just plain sexy track, perfect for late nights. I love how the song showcases Rihanna's darker, more brooding side, while still maintaining her more badass vibe — that attitude that we see so frequently on her social media. Unlike your typical female singers on the radio — like Taylor Swift, who maintains an innocent image and perpetuates the image of an ideal man as the prince-charming type, for example — I like that Rihanna subtly challenges these gender roles in her lyrics, making her a more "anti" pop star, above anything.
